6.5 magnitude earthquake shakes Cyprus | News


An earthquake of magnitude 6.5 was registered on Tuesday off the coast of Cyprus, about 119 kilometers from the city of Limassol, without causing any casualties or damage, reported the Euro-Mediterranean Seismological Center (CSEM).

The quake occurred at 04:07 local time (01:07 GMT) on Tuesday and the epicenter was located about 30 kilometers west of Cyprus and about 51 kilometers deep.

Local authorities indicated that so far they had not received reports of victims or damages caused by the earthquake.

The telluric movement was felt in parts of Turkey, Syria, Israel, Lebanon, Egypt, Libya and Greece.

After the 6.5 magnitude earthquake, the CSEM has registered about half a dozen aftershocks, the most important of which is a 3.1 magnitude.
