6.5 magnitude earthquake reported in southwest Vanuatu | News
The United States Geological Survey (USGS) reported that an earthquake of magnitude 6.5 on the Richter scale occurred this Thursday in Vanuatu, a country in Oceania.

According to the entity, the telluric movement occurred around 05:04 (local time on Friday) and had its epicenter 86 kilometers southwest of the town of Port-Olry, with a depth of 10 kilometers.
Initially, the reports placed the magnitude of the earthquake at 6.8, which was located 94 kilometers west of Luganville, the second largest city in the oceanic country.
The USGS also indicated that shortly after the quake, another 5.4 magnitude tremor shook the same territory.
Countries with coasts on the Pacific Ocean, such as Chile, ruled out the occurrence of tsunamis, according to details of the Hydrographic and Oceanographic Service of the Navy (SHOA) of the southern country.
Vanuatu was hit on Wednesday night by Cyclone Judy, which brought winds of up to 200 kilometers per hour and knocked out telecommunications in some parts of the nation.
However, Vanuatu is in the path of Cyclone Kevin, which according to the local Meteorology Department, could intensify to category five today and make landfall on Friday, so the authorities warn citizens to prepare.
