6.5 magnitude earthquake affects the Mexican state of Chiapas | News

In Mexico, the National Seismological Service reported that an earthquake of magnitude 6.5, with aftershocks of 4 and 4.2, was detected this morning with an epicenter in the Gulf of Tehuantepec, 128 km southwest of the municipality of Pijijiapan, in the southern state of Chiapas.

Dated this July 14, a report from the AC Seismic Recording and Instrumentation Center confirms that at 03:29 (local time) the telluric movement was recorded, which did not imply a warning; since the energy radiated during the first seconds did not exceed the activation levels.

For its part, the State Civil Protection System in Chiapas activated the monitoring protocol for earthquakes, which showed that no human losses or injured people or material damage were reported.

There are reports that the telluric movement was perceived in the regions of the coast, mountains, Soconusco, as well as in Guatemala. Through their social networks, the inhabitants of Chiapas shared the moments they experienced due to the telluric movement and highlighted the strength with which they felt it.

Other users also reported that the earthquake was perceptible in the city of Villahermosa, state of Tabasco; as well as in some areas of Oaxaca, such as Salina Cruz, Matías Romero and Huatulco.



Until this Thursday, in the state of Chiapas, a total of 1,707 earthquakes had been registered; reason why it occupies the third place in Mexico, after the demarcations of Oaxaca and Guerrero.
