23 soldiers missing due to flash flood in northern India
At least 23 soldiers from the Indian Army have disappeared this Wednesday morning due to a flash flood of the Tista River, in the Indian state of Sikkim, in the north of the country. Authorities have indicated that the flood has affected several military establishments and rescue efforts are underway, according to the Indian news agency ANI. Monsoon rains have taken place during the early morning hours, while the release of water from a dam has caused water levels to rise after a high alert. In addition, several houses near the river have been evacuated and temporary aid facilities have been established in schools, indicates the aforementioned agency. Several military vehicles are also underwater.
